Dears – it happened: Inga started treatment. The day we’ve been dreaming about for 117 weeks has finally come.
Before we write any more, we would like to thank all of you – without your support this day would not come as soon as it was only possible. Thank you to those who have helped us with translations, travel arrangements, accommodations in different corners of Europe. Huge thanks to those who inspired us, gave us advices, hit at their sources, wrote us news and were supporting us. Thank you to those who shared and liked our posts. Thank you to doctors and physiotherapists who are taking care of Inga. Without the support of our family the whole trial operation would have failed too – thank you very much, dears! This year thanks go especially to those who helped hand out Inga’s leaflets – the scale of your engagement intimidates us! Really – thank you everyone for every kind of support to our beloved Inga. Finally, thank you to everyone who donated a penny to support our fight with SMA: it was worth it!
Inga started treatment by joining the clinical trial of a new drug in Milan in Italy. She lives there now with her mother who, regardless her natural stress and fear of the unknown, has taken the challenge and with the greatest possible hope she took care of Inga in a new country, a new city, among new people.
Hundreds of e-mails, hundreds of hours over documents, dozens of hours on the phone, many travels, tiredness, uncertainty, hope, struggle and love for our beloved children: this is the story of our last two years. Long journeys to hospitals have made Inga be more excited about riding the tram or bus than taking another flight.
Our fight with SMA is not over. It’s actually just begun. Living in a new city, in a new country is a huge challenge. With great hope we ask and still wait for your help. Biggest step is finally behind us. But there are thousands of small steps ahead of us into unknown future of the next day. We’re counting on you, Inga is counting on you as well and she’s sending a classic “OK” thumb.
